To realise the ambitious vision of a peaceful, environmentally conscious, socially inclusive world, the United Nations defined 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as concrete fields of action. Schools are important organisations to promote sustainability and have a great responsibility to  integrate sustainability issues in class-room teaching.

die Berater® in cooperation with Catro Bulgaria will provide transnational  teacher training courses with reference to the Sustainable Development Goals. Participation in these courses can be funded through mobility grants within Erasmus+ Key Activity 1: School Education projects. The courses are listed in the Course Catalogue of the School Education Gateway.

No Climate Fake News!

Content:

Although it obvious that climate change is taking place, still a lot of intentional misinformation on climate issues is being spread in the internet. The course has the ultimate aim to increase pupils’ digital skills and awareness about climate change issues by providing teachers with knowledge, methodologies and practical tools for the classroom. Game-based learning, e.g. creation of digital peer-to-peer learning materials, is a key element of the approach.

Target group:

Secondary school teachers (all types) of 14-18-year-old pupils

Learning outcomes:

  • Awareness and basic knowledge about fake news on climate change and how to detect them (watch websites, analytical methodologies etc.)
  • Insight how fake news can be spread and manipulated in social media
  • Introduction to game-based learning and quiz-based learning as methodologies for digital and sustainability competence development
  • Practical tools for media and quiz production in the classroom

Creativity and Innovation Management for Sustainability

Content:

Creativity and Innovation are crucial driving factors of developing new ideas. The course focuses for finding ideas for school projects on environmental and sustainability issues, and how to plan and implement them. By applying a design thinking process approach new tools and techniques for developing and planning project ideas will be practised in teams. The competence validation methodology LEVEL5 will also be trained to validate the development of sustainability competences during the project creation process.

 Target group:

Secondary school teachers (all types) of 14-18-year-old pupils

Learning outcomes:

  • Knowledge of teaching methods for generating innovative ideas to meet environmental and sustainability challenges in schools
  • Knowledge of stimulating techniques to evaluate innovative sustainability ideas regarding usefulness, desirability, feasibility, legality, ethical-moral aspects etc.
  • Ability to support pupils in the implementation of new project ideas
  • Ability to validate the competence development of pupils

SDG for Schools: School Development Towards Sustainability

Content:

The member states of the United Nations have committed themselves to implementing the Agenda 2030 for sustainable development. To realise the ambitious vision of a peaceful, environmentally conscious, socially inclusive world, 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were set out as concrete fields of action. Against this background, schools are not only called upon to a key role as education providers, but also as organisations they are expected to make appropriate efforts for the sustainable use of resources. This course is an integrated training and development programme to support school professionals to explore and improve their professional environment and further develop it towards the SDG.

Target group:

Headmasters and other relevant administrative and management staff, teachers with special responsibilities of all school types

Learning outcomes:

  • Knowledge about the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and their potential to serve as a reference framework for sustainable development e of the school organisation
  • Deeper understanding of the current sustainability performance of the own school
  • Definition of organisational sustainable development goals to be defined in the school’s profile and mission statement
  • Ability to develop a tailor-made SDG programme in which concrete goals and measures for organisational development are planned

Sustainable mental health and wellbeing of teachers

Content:

There is a growing concern about the fact that more teachers are suffering from burnout and are demoralized relatively early in their careers, mainly due to parent’s behaviour, difficult students, workplace conflicts, workload, deadlines, etc. The aim of the training is to contribute to sustainable improvement of the mental health, wellbeing and resilience of teachers by equipping the pedagogical specialists with practical emotional intelligence and stress management tools. Thus, the course contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3: Healthy lives and wellbeing for all at all ages

Target group:

School teachers (all types) of 7-18-year-old pupils

Learning outcomes:

  • Knowledge about the neurological aspects of Emotional Intelligence and Stress management, and the fundamental principles of the human brain based on Neuroscience
  • Ability to develop and improve emotional literacy, self-awareness and emotional regulation
  • Ability to identify the sources of stress, to prevent and cope with stress
  • Ability to apply stress management techniques to typical educational situations (g. simple relaxation and meditation techniques; Mindfulness; etc.)

Sustainable Entrepreneurship Competence

Content:

Entrepreneurial competence, i.e. the development of pupils’ mindset, values, and skills which are a pre-requisite to create and run a business is a top priority of European educational policies and has been reflected in the European Union’s “Key Competences for Lifelong Learning”, as well as in the EntreComp framework. The course focuses on socially responsible and climate-friendly, entrepreneurship and provides teachers with pupil-centred, gamified methodologies to enhance such competences of their pupils.

Target group:

Secondary school teachers (all types) of 14-18-year-old pupils

Learning outcomes:

  • Knowledge about entrepreneurial competences and its linkage to sustainability issues
  • Understanding of the principles of gamified learning
  • Ability to design and implement gamified Sustainable Entrepreneurship Competence learning units
